Though Chelsea don’t appear to be lacking for goals after bulldozing their way to victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv, the club are still looking at young strikers to bring to Stamford Bridge. One of the biggest names on Jose Mourinho’s winter shopping list appears to be Boca Juniors forward Jonathan Calleri.
According to the Metro, Chelsea are very close to a deal for the Boca Juniors starlet and received a significant boost towards his transfer after it was revealed that Calleri will soon obtain a passport from Italy. The passport issue was a significant obstacle to Chelsea, as a Calleri’s lack of caps for Argentina would have required a significant amount of red tape to cut to secure his transfer to Europe.
Calleri scored 10 goals for Boca Juniors this past season, leading the team (as well as former Premier League Golden Boot winner Carlos Tevez) and tied for 6th in the Argentine Primera Division.
Inter Milan, one of Jose Mourinho’s former club, are also believed to have significant interest in the 22-year-old’s transfer.
