Manchester United can clinch a spot in the Champions League knockout round with a win over PSV Eindhoven this Wednesday. Coming off a narrow win over Norwich City despite missing starting forwards Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial, there are legitimate concerns that the Red Devils could lose to the team that already beat them back in September. Luckily, the star strikers have returned to training just in the nick of time.
According to the Daily Mail, Martial (foot) and Wayne Rooney (illness) were both back with the team during training at Carrington on Tuesday morning. Marouane Fellaini and James Wilson were among players making their return after injury spells as well.
The most glaring absences from training on Tuesday were Ander Herrera, Phil Jones, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick. Herrera and Jones both suffered injuries during the 2-1 win over Norwich City.
Manager Louis van Gaal will undoubtedly need to be even more creative in order to secure Man United’s Champions League qualification. Luckily for him, the duo of Memphis and Jesse Lingard proved effective in the club’s win over Norwich City, and could very well be up front against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.
Asked about the current injury situation for the club, Louis van Gaal responded, “It is deteriorating further, after we went 1-0 ahead we had to make more things happen.
“It is really important that we now go and look at this problem. It has happened too many times. In matches against top opposition we rise above our potential but these kind of games are just as important.
“We also have to bring our motivation to these games. It is sour to lose and if we want to win any prizes this season we are going to need to change it.”
