Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have joined Arsenal in the race to sign sought-after Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, according to the Daily Mirror.
According to Sky Sports via Italian publication Calciomercato, the La Liga outfit are prepared to meet Marseille’s £35m asking-price to secure his services.
The 22-year-old has garnered some heavy attention this season by bagging nine goals in 16 appearances so far, which he has supplemented with three assists.
He also made a positive impact this week when he was drafted into Marc Wilmots Belgium squad scoring the third in a victory over Italy.
In a recent interview with French publication La Derniere Heure, Marseille owner Vincent Labrune commented on the speculation linking him with a move away by saying: “There is not a single top 15 world club that is not interested in Batshuayi.
“He is one of the most wanted players on the market. There were a lot of offers for him this summer, but he did not want to leave.
“He is proving himself on the pitch. And if clubs want him then they are going to have to pay up – around £35m.”
