While the majority of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool squad are away on international duty, those Reds players who haven’t been picked for their nations are still training at Melwood.

The left-over Reds played out a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this week, which was won 3-2 thanks to two key star performances.

Our sister site, Liverpool fan blog Empire of the Kop, covered the match and reported back on the Reds’ key performers in an experimental line up for the German coach.

The outstanding individuals for Klopp’s side were Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian pair each scored a goal in the first half as Liverpool took the lead, but after Wolves pulled level, it was left to Coutinho to settle the match with a winner.

After a promising start to life as Liverpool coach—Klopp went unbeaten in his first six matches, winning three—the Merseyside giants were defeated 2-1 at home by Crystal Palace in their last EPL match before the international break.

Klopp will be desperate to return to winning ways after the pause, but will be aware that an away trip to Manchester City is one of the division’s more demanding fixtures.
