Manchester United are believed to have agreed a fee for Benfica forward Nico Gaitan over the summer but ultimately opted against completing the deal, the Metro reports.
A report in the Daily Mirror, who cite Portuguese publication A Bola, claims that United had initially agreed to bring the Argentine international to Old trafford for a fee of ?€30million (£22million).
The Metro reports that because manager Louis van Gaal sealed deals for Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial during the summer window, a move for Gaitan was made to take a backseat.
Gaitan is a big name in Portugal, where he has built a solid reputation for himself, however, he still remains untested in a more competitive league despite the recent slew of transfer links.
