Jose Mourinho has singled out Chelsea star Eden Hazard as the best player in the Premier League according to reports in the Metro.

The 24-year-old played a key role in helping Mourinho’s side to a Premier League title triumph last season and earned a host of individual accolades in the process, including most prominently the PFA Player of the Year award.

However Hazard hasn’t been at his best thus far this term and his skied penalty against Maccabi Tel Aviv was mocked by many, which has led to Mourinho defending the former Lille man.

‘He’s the best player in England,’ insisted Mourinho.

‘As I was saying the other day it’s not because Wayne Rooney doesn’t score goals for three weeks that he is not a fantastic player.

‘Eden is the best player in this country so it’s not because that performance or penalty or not scoring goals for three or four weeks that he is not the best. He’s the best and he will be the best again.

‘I don’t know if it’s tomorrow or the next day but soon he will be man of the match again.’ Mourinho added.

Chelsea paid £32m for Eden Hazard back in June 2012 and the creative flair player has racked up 49 goals in 166 appearances for the West London side.
