Man United have made Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane their top transfer target for next summer according to talkSPORT.
Louis van Gaal has resorted to using Dutch utility man Daley Blind as a central defensive partner for Chris Smalling and though he has performed well it appears the Old Trafford boss is keen to bring in a more effective fit for the role.
Jonny Evans was offloaded and Phil Jones is still sidelined whilst Marcos Rojo is yet to feature in van Gaal’s first-team set-up this term after reportedly falling out with the Argentine during the mid-season break.
22-year-old French international Varane was brought to the Bernabeu by former boss Jose Mourinho, who then showed great faith in the then teenager, but was not a regular under Carlo Ancelotti.
The former Lens man has started two of Real Madrid’s opening three La Liga fixtures under Rafa Benitez and it’s unlikely the Spanish giants would be looking to sell Varane given that he a great youthful prospect who challenges both Sergio Ramos and Pepe for a starting berth and has a fair few years on both of the established talents.
