Arsenal transfer news: Gunners tipped to seal late striker deal

Arsenal look set to offload unwanted forward Joel Campbell at the end of the summer transfer window, with Turkish source Vatan claiming Galatasaray will bid for his services.

The Costa Rica international has been unable to break into the first-team setup during his time with the Gunners, going out on loan on four occasions in a bid to both gain experience and acquire a work permit earlier on in his career.

Still, Campbell has not progressed as hoped at the Emirates Stadium, and endured a frustrating time last term as he struggled even to make the bench on a regular basis before joining Villarreal on loan for the second half of the campaign.

Failing to impress in La Liga, the 23-year-old now looks set to join old Arsenal team-mate Lukas Podolski by moving to Galatasaray, who are keen on another addition up front.

With pace and finishing that has seen him shine on the international stage for Costa Rica, Campbell clearly has some potential and could do well in a slightly less competitive league.

It remains to be seen if a deal can be done in time for the transfer deadline, but it looks increasingly likely that Galatasaray will try their luck late on if Vatan are to be believed.

Given his status in Arsene Wenger’s squad, it seems unlikely that the north London giants would block the move or demand too much money.
