Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes a deal to take West Brom striker Saido Berahino to White Hart Lane will happen before the transfer window slams shut.

The England U21 international saw a second transfer request rejected by the Baggies earlier in the week as he looks to force through an exit from the Hawthorns before September 1.

He has been heavily linked with a move to the north London outfit for the majority of the summer transfer window as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to bolster his attacking options and provide further competition for Harry Kane, who is yet to find the back of the net in the club’s first three games of the new season.

Spurs have already seen an fresh offer of £21million rejected, but are expected to test their Premier League rivals’ resolve with another bid and ex-boss Redknapp believes a deal between the two clubs is being done behind the scenes:

“Jeremy Peace [West Brom chairman] holds all the aces in that situation because Tottenham are desperate for a striker – he’s the one they’ve identified, so I think the deal will happen before the deadline,” Redknapp said on talkSPORT.

“Everything’s probably all done with the player behind the scenes, he probably has a good idea about where he’s going to live, even.”

“All it is now is a game of bluff between the two chairmen, who are trying to get the best deal for their clubs,” Redknapp added.
