Jose Mourinho talks ‘limited’ Chelsea signings and hits out at supporters’ transfer demands

Jose Mourinho talks during a press conference at Chelsea Training Ground on August 14, 2015 in Cobham, England.

There is a worrying feeling from the Chelsea camp that all is not well with Jose Mourinho, the Blues manager, as their title-defending campaign has not got off to the best of starts.

While the axing of first-team doctor Eva Carneiro and first-team physiotherapist Jon Fearn has been dominating the headlines, there have also been concerns that the reigning champions’ lack of activity in the transfer market may prove costly with their rivals having strengthened their squads.

And it seems that Mourinho may – ever so slightly – agree.

The Portuguese boss, only a few weeks ago, insisted that he expected just a new left-back to be signed, but he has now described the squad as ‘limited’ and is hopeful that the club will allow a few more players to be signed.

“You can say ‘Why didn’t we do our business before the start of the pre-season?’ like we did last year but it’s not because we don’t want to, it’s because it’s not possible,” as quoted by the Daily Star.

“So, in this moment, we are a bit limited but I have no doubt that the club will give the squad a couple more players.”

What’s more, Mourinho hit out at the supporters who have been bemoaning the lack of activity from their side over the summer, suggesting that such cries are an insult to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

“If Chelsea supporters are worried about the transfer window it must be until the moment Mr Abramovich bought the club because since he bought the club Chelsea supporters cannot speak in a negative way about the transfer market, only in a positive way,” he continued.

“We managers won titles, players won titles and I think the contribution of the owner has been fantastic.”
