Chelsea‘s pursuit of a new left-back has taken a step in a positive direction as Bundesliga outfit Augsburg have signed a potential replacement for Blues transfer target Adbul Baba Rahman.
Mirror Sport has revealed that last season’s surprise package in Germany’s top division have confirmed the capture of Philipp Max and that is expected to pave the way for Rahman to complete his transfer to West London in the very near future.
The reigning Barclays Premier League champions are in desperate need to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season and following the sale of Filipe Luis to former club Atletico Madrid last month, Cesar Azpilicueta is the only recognised first-team left-back at the club and manager Jose Mourinho will be well aware of the risks going into a new campaign short of numbers in that department.
Rahman is considered as one of the brightest prospects in European football at the moment and he played a vital part in helping Augsburg finish fifth in the Bundesliga last season.
The 21-year-old registered four assists in 31 league appearances during the 2014-15 campaign and that total is higher than Azpilicueta and Luis’ contributions in the final third combined.
