Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that his side need to score more goals, reports the Daily Express.
This is comes amid rumours linking the Frenchman with a move for compatriot Karim Benzema from Real Madrid [Daily Mail]. The 27-year-old scored 22 goals in 47 appearances last season, and is widely regarded as one of the best specialist strikers in world football.

However, Wenger seems adamant that his current squad are capable of hitting the back of the net more often. This is despite Petr Cech, a goalkeeper, being their only signing of the summer so far. Danny Welbeck missing the start of the campaign will also hinder the Gunners in their efforts to score more.
“You are right. Our target is to improve our number. We want to combine good defensive efficiency with 10 more goals,” Wenger said, “In the second part of last season we only conceded 13 goals in 19 games. So we want to keep that and add a few more goals.
“I think we can find that from inside, I am convinced of that. We have enough goals in the squad. What we want is some more goals from some players who are not really strikers. That was our strength traditionally. The players who were offensive and creative players scored 10 to 12 goals, that’s what you need. But if we can find it from outside then we will do it as well.”
The North London outfit finished 12 points behind Premier League champions Chelsea last time round, so clearly something will need to change if they are going to challenge the Blues. The recent revelation that they have £200 million in the bank will give hope that something can indeed be done.
