Anfield side keen on Stamford Bridge target.

Liverpool have entered the race to sign much sought-after Barcelona star Pedro, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

The 27-year-old Spanish international has been linked with interest from a number of Europe’s elite including Chelsea [via the Independent] and Man United [via the Daily Express].

The Nou Camp attacker has found himself largely warming the bench over the past year as Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has opted to field Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar in a sparkling three-pronged attack.

El Mundo Deportivo cite Liverpool’s banking of £49 million from the sale of Raheem Sterling as the basis of a potential bid to sign Pedro though it’s worth noting that the Anfield side have already spent heavily this summer.

Brendan Rodgers has already completed deals to sign free agents James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan as well as spending large sums to bring in Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino, Nathaniel Clyne and Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke.

Pedro is a forward of proven quality and is a player who could offer Rodgers a strong option to fill either a central striking berth or a spot out on either flank.

Last season Liverpool struggled in front of goal, their 52 goal Premier League tally way below the 100+ they netted in 2013/14, with Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini all failing to impress.

Rodgers also saw England international Daniel Sturridge ruled out for most of the campaign through injury.

Pedro has netted 98 goals in 318 appearances for Barcelona over the course of his eight seasons in the first team set-up.

El Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona want €30m (£21m) for their long serving attacker.
