Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has provided an update after claiming that the Red Devils were closing in on a mysterious signing.

The Dutchman caused considerable transfer excitement earlier this week when he revealed that the Premier League giants were in discussions with a ‘surprise’ forward – that the media had not speculated upon.

However, in an update on his comments, van Gaal has teased – once again – by denying his very own suggestions on their current activity in the market:

“I don’t know if I want to buy a striker because I have read in the media that a striker is the surprise,” as quoted by the Express.

“No, that I have not said. But you are saying that, because my answer is like that. No, I mean something else.”

There were reports that Paris Saint-Germain’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic could have been the secret target, as the Express stated that Betfair had slashed their odds from 20/1 to 5/1 on the Sweden legend walking out at Old Trafford next season.

What’s more, the Mirror, on Wednesday morning, claimed that they had discovered the man at question to be Juventus’ Fernando Llorente. According to the English newspaper, United have been offered the Spaniard – who has also been heavily linked to Tottenham Hotspur.
