Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has become a surprise transfer target for Serie A giants Juventus this summer as they consider an alternative to Chelsea playmaker Oscar in that position.
According to various sources in Italy, including CalcioMercato and Sportmediaset, the German international has become one of Massimiliano Allegri’s preferred targets for this summer as he looks to continue strengthening his title-winning squad.
Juventus have been hugely dominant in the Italian top flight in recent times, winning four titles in a row now, and Allegri also helped guide the team to the Champions League final last term.
Still, with CalcioMercato mentioning the doubt over the futures of key midfielders like Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal, it is little surprise that some big names are now being looked at by the club as potential replacements.
Ozil has not always found peak form since moving to Arsenal from Real Madrid, and it could be argued that the club should be open to letting him go if a good enough offer comes in, with Arsene Wenger already having plenty of good options in the attacking midfield department, such as last season’s in-form stars Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez.
Despite shining in his time in La Liga, the 26-year-old is perhaps less suited to the faster and more physical nature of the English game, and could himself be tempted by the chance to revive his career by moving to a new league.
