Manchester United rumours
Manchester United are close to finalising the sale of Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce in this summer’s transfer window after the player agreed personal terms on the switch, according to the Guardian.
The Netherlands international seems to be on the brink of a move to Turkey, with a fee still to be agreed between the two clubs after personal talks seem to have been concluded, with the Guardian claiming that former Liverpool man and Van Persie’s international team-mate Dirk Kuyt has been instrumental in helping push this move through.
The former Arsenal captain only scored ten goals for United last season, and looked a shadow of the player who fired them to Premier League glory back in the 2012/13 season, when he looked like one of the best strikers in world football.
Van Persie also shone with the Gunners, winning the Golden Boot and Player of the Year awards in his final season at the Emirates Stadium in 2011/12, but now seems to be set to call time on his illustrious career in the English game, if reports are to be believed.
United have already bid farewell to Radamel Falcao this summer after ending his loan spell with the club, and if Van Persie is to leave the club, it could mean Louis van Gaal is short of options up front for next season, with this potential move leaving Wayne Rooney as the only recognised striker at Old Trafford, though summer signing Memphis Depay can also play in that position.
Fenerbahce finished second in the Turkish Super Lig last season and will be hoping this big-name arrival can fire the club to glory.
