Liverpool Clyne: Reds clear to sign Man United transfer target as Saints agree deal for replacement
Ten transfer sagas nearing conclusion, with Benteke, Clyne to Liverpool & Manchester United defender deal
The 24 year old was the subject of an earlier failed bid from the Merseyside outfit but Liverpool are now ready to up that offer as they seek to once again raid the St Mary’s side.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers successfully lured Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren from the south-coast side last summer, with the trio on the whole failing to impress in their debut seasons at the club, and the Northern Irish boss will hope the presence of his former team-mates could act as extra motivation for Clyne as he considers a summer transfer.
Clyne may well be considered an ideal replacement for Glen Johnson, with the experienced defender having left Liverpool on expiry of his contract.
Liverpool have already signed James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez this summer.
