The former Chelsea man has proven a massive hit since moving to Germany and Wolfsburg will demand £58m for his services, the approximate value of the remainder of his contract, and this may lead Louis van Gaal to make an offer for the 23 year old.
Wolfsburg paid Chelsea £18m for de Bruyne in January 2014 and the former Blues star is by some distance the leading assist maker in the German top tier, his 19 assists helping his side to cement their spot in the top three.
De Bruyne didn’t really get a chance to prove himself at Stamford Bridge, the former Racing Genk man making just two Premier League starts before he was sold by Jose Mourinho, and he may well be tempted by the chance of a high-profile move to Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal has already secured the signing of PSV Eindhoven’s Memphis Depay and may well be keen to add more options to boost his attack this summer.
