The German could apparently be available for £30m from the Bundesliga side, but the club have put up a fight when trying to keep the 21-year-old in the past. However, this season the forward has been hampered by injury and the emergence of Max Meyer has made him less important to the side.
The youngster has made just 16 appearances in all competitions for Schalke during the current campaign, 10 of which were starts. In those matches he has managed just two goals and two assists. This is disappointing compared to his 2012/13 league campaign, in which the then 19-year-old scored ten times and created another three for his teammates.
Despite this seeming fall off the English giants are still interested in the German, who played a small part in their World Cup winning campaign last summer. Perhaps a change in scenery is what the 21-year-old needs to make good on his undoubted potential, and could spur him on to greater things.
