This isn’t the first controversy over a contract for the Reds this season. Raheem Sterling has refused to continue negotiations over a new deal until the campaign is over according to a separate Daily Mirror report – with the England international rejecting a deal worth £100,000 a week to cement his future with the club.

Skrtel has been a key part of the Reds side this season, making 27 Premier League appearances for the team. However, the 30-year-old has only one season left on his contract, and apparently the club hasn’t started any negotiations with him. The Reds will surely want to tie him down to Anfield soon, so that no other sides start sniffing around one of their prized assets.

With contract related problems mounting for manager Brendan Rodgers, some fingers may eventually be pointed at the club hierarchy. However, for now it is just the Northern Irishman who is under pressure, with the recent loss to Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi finals especially displeasing for supporters.
