The Brazilian defender lasted just 21 minutes of the first leg in France last week and was originally named in the squad to travel to Spain but in a statement on the official club website it has been revealed that Silva has withdrawn from the traveling party in order to continue his rehabilitation.
His absence is likely to mean a chance for former Chelsea defender David Luiz to redeem himself following last week’s horror show when he was humiliated by Luis Suarez at the Parc des Princes stadium as the Barcelona striker scored a brace to give his side a commanding lead ahead of the game at the Camp Nou.
The French champions need to make up their two goal deficit if they are to reach the semi’s and achieve a feat that no side playing the second leg away from home has been able to do in the competition’s history .
On a more positive note for the Ligue 1 side key duo Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marco Verratti will both return to the squad after sitting out the first game through suspension.
