The supporters have pointed out that picking captain Steven Gerrard to play in the encounter may have been based on sentimentality. It is the 34-year-old’s final season at the club, but the team has been playing better without him in recent weeks.
As always when the Northern Irishman comes under pressure his transfer history has been questioned. Arguably only Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge have been proven successes at the club after being signed by Rodgers.
Were the Reds to fail to qualify for the Champions League the pressure will only heighten on the 42-year-old. As they are currently six points behind fourth placed Manchester City there is a genuine chance that this could happen. Liverpool have played a game less though so could still make up the gap.
Fans aren’t happy with him on Twitter…
I’d love a manager I wasn’t embarrassed of every time he opens his mouth. #LFC #Rodgers

After the shambles of this season, Rodgers has lost leverage. Bring in a DoF or sack him

I think it’s time to let Rodgers go, he’s been great but now I think the time is right to move on to someone new

Wait, Rodgers said Gerrard was ‘excellent today’? Take back what I said, tie him up and dump in a river to see if he floats.

Brendan Rodgers. Not the man for big games. How that squares with managing #LFC, I don’t get … #TimeForAChange

Three years without a single trophy with Brendan Rodgers. @LFC #RodgersOut

Rodgers out! Bring back Rafa or bring Klopp in!

Don’t think Rodgers is a bad manager or a fraud. Lots of potential and I quite like him. Just think there are better ones out there for LFC.

I like Rodgers but I have concerns that he won’t get us any further than where we are. It may be time for a change of manager #LFC

Brendan Rodgers is seriously the epitome of cluelessness
