The 33-year-old spent three seasons at Anfield, albeit mainly as a bit-part player, before joining West Ham United and eventually winding up at Villa Park this season.
Cole’s success in the cup came during his time as a Chelsea player, when he lifted the trophy in 2007, 2009 and as part of a Premier League and FA Cup double in 2010.
Villa will be major underdogs in this tie after a difficult season fighting against relegation in the Premier League, and Cole admits it would be a huge achievement if his side could somehow go on to win the competition, beating a big name like Liverpool along the way.
Speaking about the prospect of adding another winners’ medal to his collection, the former England international told The Sun: “That would be a dream. After the Champions League it is the biggest cup competition in the world. It has such prestige worldwide.
“It would be a massive achievement and we are just two games away. We still want to secure our league future, but how can you not get excited?”
