The Reds conceded three goals right at the end of the first half at the Emirates, with Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez all getting on the scoresheet, but Emre Can’s red card all but ended any hopes of a point and Olivier Giroud completed the rout in injury time.
Henderson, who pulled one back from the penalty spot with less than 15 minutes to go, has blasted his teammates for capitulating in the manner that they did:
To concede three goals in such a short space of time is not good enough.” the England international told the Daily Star Sunday.
“Our one-v-one defending needs to be better.”
“I’m sure we’ll work on that in training. We’ve just got to be a little bit more aggressive, defensively, and then also in the final third, be more ruthless.” he added.
The result leaves Liverpool eight points off the top-four with just seven games to play and face a uphill task to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
After a defeat against bitter rivals Manchester United before the international break, the Reds needed to avoid defeat in North London to remain in the race and now their attentions will turn to the FA Cup replay against Championship side Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Wednesday night.
