The 24 year old England man has apparently turned down a new contract offer and this has led to the Blues taking an active interest in the Anfield vice-captain.
The Daily Star points out that whilst the media’s attention has firmly been focused on youngster Raheem Sterling it appears that former Sunderland man Henderson is another who could flee the Merseyside outfit.
Whilst Sterling has just over two years to run on his current contract Henderson will be into the final year of his come the summer, making him very vulnerable to offers from prospective suitors.
Henderson initially failed to impress at Liverpool but has matured into a key performer over the past 18 months and is arguably a far more consistent player than Sterling.
With Liverpool unlikely to secure a Champions League berth for next term Jose Mourinho may well feel confident he could lure Henderson to Stamford Bridge.
It is however hard to fathom quite where Henderson would fit into the current Chelsea midfield with the likes of Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and Oscar often used in central roles, though the Liverpool man can also play in a wide slot if necessary.
