Manuel Garcia Quilon says that the trio were interested in a move for the midfielder back in January, and could try again in the summer. This will be bad news for the two Premier League sides, who the report says have become favourites for his signature.
The 28-year-old could be the defensive player in the middle of the park that the Gunners have needed for several years. At the same time Brendan Rodgers may see the Spaniard as a good replacement for the soon to depart Steven Gerrard, in front of his defence.
However, now it seems that the pair could have trouble getting their man.
Quilon said: “He was followed in January by three or four Italian teams, including Milan, Inter and Napoli. At the moment I couldn’t say if there are any meetings planned with [AC Milan’s Adriano] Galliani, but it’s true that in the past he was pursued by Milan.
“We’re talking about an extraordinary player, who can represent the season’s best signing for any team.”
