England boss Roy Hodgson is delighted to see Wayne Rooney playing up front again
Liverpool star Raheem Sterling was the scorer, darting into the six yard box to get on the end of a Wayne Rooney cross.
Roy’s eyesight is clearly failing him though; he was completely clueless about who scored the goal! In the clip below you can clearly see 67 year old Hodgson turn to assistant manager Ray Lewington and ask “Who scored that?”, to which his number two replies “young Sterling”.
The episode might cast some light on Roy’s frequently bizarre post-match interviews, where he often suggests England turned in a vastly superior performance to the on-pitch reality. It might also explain his oversight of West Bromwich Albion forward Saido Berahino when he named his squad a couple of weeks ago and why Harry Kane started tonight on the bench.
All three of Hodgon’s forward players have already scored, but we could have seen a vastly different starting lineup.
