Harry Kane is the leading goalscorer in the Premier League this season, with nineteen goals in twenty-six games for Tottenham – including a hat-trick against Leicester City in Spurs’ last game. He will have to wait a little longer to make his international debut however, as England manager Roy Hodgson has selected Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck to start tonight’s clash against Lithuania.

Eight England debut performances Harry Kane will want to replicate against Lithuania
Hodgson has suggested that he has stuck with the former Manchester United teammates, and avoided the temptation to hand Kane his first cap straight away, because of the success the pair have brought the side. England have won all four of their qualification games so far, and go into the game against the team ranked 94th in the world hoping to potentially extend their six-point lead at the top of Group E.
Twitter has been quick to react to the news that the league’s most in form striker will be missing, largely criticising the selection of Arsenal striker Welbeck, as well as Hodgson’s lack of bravery. However, some have supported the starting line-up, suggesting that Rooney and Welbeck is a trusted partnership for the national side.

So Harry Kane is going to have to wait for his 1st England start. After all, he has only scored 29 goals this season inc. 11 in his last 11! — Adam Bailey (@baileyadam1878) March 27, 2015
Kane’s form got him into the squad, not the starting X1. Wellbeck and Rooney have done well in qualifiers so far

I don’t get it. Rooney is main striker. Kane can’t play out wide, Welbs can. Did people expect Rooney to be dropped for Kane? — K (@kwamasco) March 27, 2015
Harry Kane should be starting but Roy has not got the nerve to leave Rooney out…
