The 23 year old made just two Premier League starts before Jose Mourinho decided to offload the creative midfielder, who moved to Wolfsburg in an £18m deal in January 2014, and de Bruyne hasn’t looked back since.
The former Blues flop is the leading assist maker in the German top tier, his tally of 16 being far ahead of the chasing pack, and one can see why Pep Guardiola would be taking a keen interest.
Guardiola’s Allianz Arena side are of course a dominant force in European football but both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are clearly in the latter stages of their respective careers, both players being over the age of 30, and de Bruyne may be seen as a logical successor to either player.
Wolfsburg would be loathed to lose de Bruyne but if the player pushed for an exit then an offer that doubles their outlay would be hard to ignore.
