Gerrard had only just come onto the field after substituting Adam Lallana at half time and after a fairly robust challenge on Juan Mata, the Anfield favourite stamped on Ander Herrera.
The incident certainly didn’t help matters as Liverpool lost 2-1 to Man United in an encounter that could prove crucial in the top four race.
