Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has hailed the strength in depth at the club following their huge win over fierce rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

Louis van Gaal’s side have opened up a five point lead over their nearest challengers in the race for a Champions League spot, following wins against two of their top-four rivals in Tottenham and Liverpool in the last two weeks.
Carrick, whose return to the side after injury has coincided with the team producing two of their best performances of the season, says competition for places will bring continue to bring out the best in the squad:
“I think it tells you about the squad and the strength in depth. What more can you say?.” The England international told the Daily Express.
“We see in training, when we have 11 v 11 practice games, that both teams are pretty equal because that is the strength of our squad now. A lot of players have had game-time this year and that does bring options.” he added.
United are back in action after the international break when they host a resurgent Aston Villa side at Old Trafford.
