The reported fee for the 22-year-old Austrian centre-half is said to be in the region of £5m and he will provide further defensive options for Mauricio Pochettino.
Wimmer has been heavily praised by the German media this season for his performances at the heart of the Cologne defence that has only conceded 31 goals in the league, a record they currently share with Borussia Dortmund.
Spurs fans will no doubt be hoping Wimmer, who has missed just one league game all season, can finally be the player that they have been craving for to replace club legend Ledley King.
Many have tried, the likes of Younes Kaboul and Federico Fazio have not convinced while youngster Eric Dier has been a regular in recent weeks but is seen as the long-term solution.
