Arsenal transfer news
There has been speculation that the Czech Republic international shot-stopper could be available this summer, though he surely would’t come cheap if moving to a rival.
With that in mind, would Arsenal be better off signing a big-name centre-back instead? Or even just revamping their defensive coaching? Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina are both fine goalkeepers on their day, and it’s hard to see even a top class performer like Cech preventing what happened to Arsenal in the first leg defeat to AS Monaco in the Champions League.
A lack of pace at the back – with Per Mertesacker most culplable – combined with general errors, lack of concentration and some laziness from midfielders who should be doing more to shield the back four are the real issues here. Cech would cost an awful lot of money and wouldn’t be able to solve these issues.
Arsenal fans surely wouldn’t complain if Cech was brought in, but there are bigger issues being ignored here if they do.
