Arteta spent half a season with La Real after joining in the summer of 2004, but after failing to hold down a regular place in the team he joined Moyes’ Everton in the 2005 January transfer window, before making the permanent move to Goodison Park the following summer.
The 32-year-old’s contract at Arsenal is set to expire at the end of the current season, and while manager Arsene Wenger is keen to tie down his captain for a further 12 months, it is understood that the Spaniard wants assurances over his first-team opportunities next season, something which Moyes could offer.
A move back home to San Sebastian could appeal to Arteta, who faces a fight to reclaim his spot in central midfield at the Emirates following the emergence of Francis Coquelin and the fine form of Santi Cazorla, while its also been reported that Wenger will look to bring in a holding midfielder this summer.
The veteran midfielder returned to training last week after missing the last four months with an injury sustained against Borussia Dortmund back in November.
