Manchester city centre chief hits back at David De Gea’s WAG’s “fridge” comments

A Manchester councillor has slammed Man United stopper David De Gea’s long-term partner for criticising the city as “uglier than the back of a fridge”.

Pat Karney, city centre chief, clearly hurt by the comments, has leapt to the city’s defence, and responded to Edurne’s comments, saying, “The only thing Manchester has in common with a fridge is that it’s really cool,” as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“But Mancunians are renowned as some of the warmest people you could ever wish to meet.

“We attract millions of visitors a year who flock here for our nightlife and celebrations, our world-class cultural attractions, our shopping and of course our football.

He went on to offer the 29-year-old and her Red Devils boyfriend an exclusive tour of Manchester: “I’m not sure how much of the city Miss Garcia has seen, but we’d be delighted to take the couple on a tour and show them what they’re missing.”

The comments of the Spanish singer has fuelled speculation even further that De Gea could head towards the exit door of Old Trafford in the summer, and join his partner, who he has maintained a long-distance relationship with since moving to the Premier League, in Spain with La Liga giants Real Madrid.
