The Argentine’s new deal will keep him at the Etihad until at least the end of next season.
Demichelis has been a key part of the City side this season, making over 30 appearances so far for the Premier League Champions.
“I want to say that I am really proud and happy to have extended my contract for another year,” said Demichelis to Manchester City’s official website.
“Manchester City is a Club with a lot of ambition. We want to grow every year. When you get to hold a trophy, it’s the best feeling for any player.
“I want to say that I will fight for this Club and for my teammates until the end of my contract. I will fight to try and win titles.”
The defender has won over a number of critics after being widely derided in his first few months of English football last term, and has now developed into a key member of the City back line.
His impressive displays helped City to a second Premier League title last season and earned him a recall to the Argentina national squad for the 2014 Brazil World Cup.
The centre-back is just another in a long line of City players to sign contract extensions this term including: Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Joe Hart.
