The Liverpool boss has been told by the Spanish giants that they are willing to sell French forward Benzema, the Metro claiming a fee of £34.5m would suffice, and given the poor form shown by both Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert one imagines such a deal would do wonders for the Anfield side’s attack.
Benzema has been in fine form since Carlo Ancelotti arrived as Jose Mourinho’s replacement as Real, the subsequent departure of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli helping to cement the former Lyon man as a regular starter, and it’s surprising that the Italian would entertain offers for the the 27 year old.
The Liverpool target bagged 24 goals in all competitions last season and thus far this term has racked up a healthy total of 20 goals, and reached double-figures in terms of assists, so quite why he’d be set to leave the La Liga side is hard to fathom.
Arbeloa on the other hand is a player who’s Real Madrid future appears to be on the line.
The experienced defender, who represented Liverpool from 2007 until 2009, is no longer a first choice starter having seen Dani Carvajal claim the right-back berth.
Real will accept as little as £3.5m for the full-back and given that Glen Johnson’s Liverpool contract expires in the summer a move for the 32 year old Spanish international would be a wise one to consider.
