With Real Madrid reportedly close to agreeing a deal for Porto’s full-back Danilo, 32-year-old Arbeloa could find first-team options in increasingly short supply.
Liverpool will definitely sign a new right-back this summer, with Glen Johnson set to move abroad.
Even though the player in under contract until 2016, the Metro claim £3.5m would secure Arbeloa’s services. However, it is likely that Napoli boss Rafa Benitez will provide competition for his signature.
Benitez was responsible for signing Arbeloa from Deportivo in 2007, before he eventually left Liverpool to join Madrid in a £5m deal in 2009.
Earlier this week it was confirmed that Arbeloa will play in Steven Gerrard’s farewall game in late March.
