Joffre Guerron gave the lead to the Mexican side, but an awesome Sanchez scissor-kick goal with 15 minutes to go salvaged a draw for the hosts.
The game was a tense affair, with the River fans making life difficult for the Mexicans throughout.
The result means Tigres now have four points and lead the group, while River Plate get their first point in the tournament but stay bottom.
