The winger was expected to be in the starting XI after beginning both of their matches since returning from the African Cup of Nations. However, Benfica loanee Filip Djuricic was in the team. The Senegal international came on in the second half.  Goals from Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho were enough to get past them at the St. Mary’s.

“He was supposed to play from the beginning. We have rules we have to respect,” Koeman told BBC Radio Solent. “I had a problem because Sadio was too late at the stadium.”

The Saints have now dropped to fifth in the Premier League, with Manchester United and Arsenal ahead of them in third and fourth. However, with games against West Brom and Crystal Palace coming up the Saints will have a chance to make up the one point difference.
