Angel Di Maria was last summer’s Premier League blockbuster signing, after a mega £59.7m was agreed with Manchester United, yet the Argentine tops a long-list of exceptional names failing to deliver at Old Trafford.
Manager Louis Van Gaal, who was given the Red Devils hot-seat last summer, spent a whopping £150m on summer signings, including Luke Shaw for £31.5m, Ander Herrera for £29m, and loan-flop Radamel Falcao on a staggering £10.3m annual wage with the English giants.

However, Di Maria has been perhaps the biggest disappointment of Van Gaal’s summer acquisitions – not least owing to the hefty price paid – but more because of the performances of the former Real Madrid star:
“Di Maria at Manchester United looks a shadow of the player he was — he looks average,” Shearer wrote in the The Sun.
“Di Maria is not playing to anywhere near the standard a player of his ability should be at the moment.”
Even more worrying, says Shearer, is the fact that last season’s Champions League final’s man of the match is not “even getting into scoring positions”.
