Southampton 0-2 Liverpool: Brendan Rodgers Talks Up Top Four Push
The Reds won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling. Despite this the Northern Irishman was unhappy with the absence and reference to the ex-Saints in the matchday programme.
The trio only left the South Coast club in the summer.
Rodgers said, “I was disappointed for Adam. He was captain at Southampton, gave incredible service. There was nothing in the match programme referencing his time there, or for Lambert.”
He added, “Those guys gave their heart and soul to Southampton. For former servants or players, there’s always some appreciation. That’s sad.I was thinking of them looking at the programme. Everything they gave to this club, and not a mention.”
The victory took the Merseyside club closer to the top four, and they are now just two points off fourth placed Manchester United. This is impressive considering the poor start to the season that the Anfield outfit endured. They have now gone 10 league games without defeat.
