The 26 year old is reportedly unsettled at the German giants, having moved to the Allianz Arena from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer last summer, and is seen by Louis van Gaal as a better option than loaned in Colombian Radamel Falcao.
Falcao hasn’t impressed during his temporary spell at Old Trafford and unsurprisingly van Gaal is looking at other potential striker signings.
Lewandowski has done relatively well since moving to Bayern Munich, netting 13 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions, but is said to not be enjoying the greatest relationship with manager Pep Guardiola.
With van Gaal electing to use Wayne Rooney in a more withdrawn role and Robin Van Persie struggling for form one can well see why the Dutch manager would be looking at possible additions to boost his attack.
A move for Lewandowski would apparently cost a fee of around £30m.
