Liverpool, Tottenham, and Newcastle United have all been linked to the Ghana international in the past, and will surely have been made aware of his availability by these comments. According to the 25-year-old Marseille are in the midst of some financial trouble, which could mean that some players will need to take a wage cut. He is not willing to do this.

“OM have financial problems and they cannot afford to pay certain wages,” the midfielder said. “I am a Marseille player at this stage and could still stay here. My future is still open.”

He added, “There will soon be a meeting to discuss my future. But I will not accept a pay cut to stay at OM. Every player wants to make progress, in all aspects. If the club want me to leave, then I will go. But I like Marseille.”

Ayew has scored eight goals in 23 appearances so far this season, helping Marcelo Bielsa get the French side to compete with Lyon and PSG at the top of Ligue 1. After leading from the start they have recently relinquished first place, and will be looking to get back on top in the next few weeks.
