Chelsea striker Diego Costa insists he has never set out to injure an opposition player, and believes some of the defenders he’s come up against have been guilty of exaggerating their reactions.

The Spanish international is set to return to action after a three-match ban for stamping on Liverpool’s Emre Can in the Capital One Cup semi-final, and has taken the opportunity to defend his actions once again.
“If you check my records, you will find out that I’ve never caused a bad injury to any player,” he is quoted in the Daily Telegraph. “The bottom line is that sometimes the little things I do on the pitch provoke exaggerated reactions.
“But if you rewind a bit and go through what they did to me, you may have another point of view.”
