The Reds have been linked with the German international forward in the past, though he now looks likely to command a hefty fee if he does move in the summer, having just signed a new contract with Dortmund.

Still, with so many clubs chasing Reus it is not impossible that he could still be heading out of the club at the end of the season, and McAteer would love to see his old club push the boat out for him.

“I would love to see a Marco Reus,” he said.

“I know he has just signed a new contract but that would probably just push the pounds up when it comes to entering the market for him.”
