The 26 year old Mexican, who has 18 months to run on his current Old Trafford contract, is currently on loan at Real Madrid but has struggled to retain a foothold in Carlo Ancelotti’s first team set-up.

Chicharito has made just one La Liga start, though has managed to net three times in domestic action, and may be tempted by a move to London if Louis van Gaal deems the forward surplus to requirements.

West Ham may well feel the need to bring in a high-profile signing or two as they prepare for their big move to the Olympic Stadium though it should be noted that Sam Allardyce’s current striking options have served him well this term.

Hernandez is a proven Premier League finisher having netted 37 goals in 102 appearances, of which 53 were from the bench, and a move to Upton Park could offer the Man United the regular first team action he richly deserves.
