Manchester City are keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, according to the Daily Mail.

Simeone, 44, has only been a manager since 2006, but he has quickly forged a fine reputation in the industry.

Last season, he guided Atletico to the La Liga title – edging out Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Atletico also reached the final of the Champions League last term.

Manuel Pellegrini currently occupies City’s hot-seat, but the Mail report that his position could become insecure if Barcelona knock the Premier League champions out of Europe next month.

If Pellegrini were to leave the Etihad Stadium, Simeone would be a leading candidate to replace him.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti and Bayern Munich’s Pep Guardiola would also be popular choices, but both are much less likely to leave their current positions.

Pellegrini has taken charge of 92 matches as City manager, leading his side to 59 victories and 15 draws.

The Chilean’s win percentage of 64.13% is marginally inferior to Simeone’s – he has led Atletico to victory in 64.32% of his 185 games in charge.
