Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is clearly looking to bring in a strong midfielder, perhaps fueled by ongoing injury concerns of Brazilian Lucas, and his Merseyside outfit will battle Arsenal for the £25m rated St Mary’s star.
Schneiderlin has been in fine form this season but if Ronald Koeman’s side fail to secure a Champions League berth then the 25 year old French international may well consider leaving the south-coast side in order to improve his career progression.
Having signed from Strasbourg in 2008, and now into his seventh season at the club, one wonders if Southampton would relent and allow Schneiderlin to leave in the summer.
Rodgers did of course conduct a major Southampton raid last term, signing Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lorven, and may be well placed to repeat the trick.
Schneiderlin offers a steely presence in the centre of the park but is also a superb distributor of the ball and is sure to be attracting the attention of a number of prospective suitors.
