The Brazilian picked up a thigh injury in the Merseyside derby against Everton and had to be taken off after just 30 minutes.

If he is out for an extended period of time it will be bad news for the Reds, as the 28-year-old had been a key performer in their recent resurgence.

Joe Allen may be the player to take his place, as it was he who did so at Goodison Park on Saturday.

There are also worries over the fitness of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, and Raheem Sterling, who are all carrying knocks.

There is some good news though, as Daniel Sturridge could make his first start since returning to the fold in their next match against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.
